Polyming Pastles
Ultrasonic cleaning of polishing pastes helps solve one of the main issues in galvanic treatments. It involves cleaning surfaces from residues such as grease, oil, dust, abrasives, and other components that hinder proper adhesion of the plated metals and can lead to delamination. In the final stage, indeed, the surfaces should be mirror polished using polishing techniques. This is then done with the plating, that is, the surfaces are brushed with impregnated felt of vegetable or animal fat and abrasives (e.g. corundum, alumina, Tripoli powder, etc.).

For years, Moroni Ultrasuoni has been working with water-based detergents as they represent a valid, effective, safe, and cost-efficient alternative to organic solvents. Organic solvents commonly used for polishing paste washing typically dilute the grease but do not eliminate it. diluiscono il grasso ma non lo eliminano. Following subsequent uses, the grease clogs the solvent, further worsening the result. In addition, there are high costs associated with its disposal, which is not only harmful to the environment but also expensive. Moreover, there are also risks to the health of the personnel involved in the cleaning process.
Aqueous detergents or organic solvents?
Chamfering pastilles washing is the most vivid problem in preparation for subsequent electrodeposition, galvanostegia, varnishing, PVD metallization or under vacuum. Furthermore, at the end of the solvent cleaning, typical dust particles appear on the surface of the treated piece, which are nothing but inorganic abrasives. Indeed, because they are inorganic, they did not dissolve in the organic solvent and appear on the surface of the piece, requiring subsequent manual removal (hand wiping).
On the contrary, ultrasonic washing with aqueous detergent reaches the innermost parts, precisely where the polishing compounds tend to accumulate, effectively breaking down and emulsifying the grease. Even the abrasives (alumina, Tripoli powder, corundum, etc.), released from the grease that held them together, are removed from the surface of the part and settle at the bottom of the tank.
